The Bush, 2013

                                              The Bush

As it was the start of the school holiday, a girl name Renee and her friends named Chasity, Mavis and Salome were having a sleepover and they were planning a camp but didn't know where to camp.
The Mavis the brain one came in to the conversation and said “we should camp at the Bush.”
Salome said “What a Bush?”
“A Bush is a place where there is lots of trees, bushes, river and my favourite the waterfall.” Said Mavis.
“Ooo that would be a awesome place to go” Renee shouted.
“When should we go to the bush?” asked Chasity.
“Maybe next week” whispered Mavis.
Everyone took a moment to think then Salome, Mavis, Chasity and Renee yelled all together and said “Tomorrow!” then they all laugh at the same time.
The next day they all went home and packed their bag.  Mavis was the first one ready so she rang Salome.
“Hello are you nearly ready?” Asked Mavis.
“All most ready”  said Salome.
“I’ll meet all of yous there bye.”
“Bye” Yelled Salome.
The next 3 hours they finally saw each other and then they walk along the bush.  They walked about an hour and a half and then they had a rest.  They drank water and ate a little bit of sandwich and off he went down the hill.
When they came back down they saw a huge tree on the pathway.
“OMG! You got to be kidding me” said Mavis all anger.
“We walked like about two hours and now we have to see this.” Said Renee.

“I know an Idea we should cut around the trees in those bushes.” Said Chasity trying to be a smarty pants.

“But we have no Idea what is down there, there might be a river or a cliff down there.” Salome said in a worry voice.
“Who care” called Chasity then out of no where she went down the bush and then Salome,Mavis and Renee heard a yell coming down the bush then found out that  Chasity wasn't there.

They all yelled“Chasity.”
Mavis said” We all have to save her, we have to go down there and save her.”
Renee and Salome said “No do you know what going to happen if we go down there.”

“No but we still have to save her she is our friend forever we can’t just leave her there just because we want or self save, we also have to save our friend, so if you's are not coming down with me to save our friend  then you's can stay here and be ashamed of yourself.” Shouted Mavis.

When she was about to go down the bushes.  Out of nowhere there was a voices saying “I'm coming down too.”
As Mavis turned around it was Renee.
Then Salome Shouted “Wait I'm coming too.
They all hold hand and said “Good Luck Girls.”
Mavis hold on to the to rope that was hanging down the hill, then Renee followed and then Salome followed.

Friendship&Family Poem, 2013

Friends!
Friends is all I have.
Friends is all I need.
My friends will never forget me.
So I’ll never forget them.

Family.
Family will stay with you till the end,
Post cards of love they will send,
No love can compare,
For them to have time to spare.

High Tides-Poem 2013

Thursday  21st November 2013
High Tides
As the sand oozing between my toes.
As a slight breeze goes past my face.
As the trail of pip’s along the way.
Sinking under the golden sand.
Oh my lord it’s taking forever!
The sound of the wave near by.
Made me cry of joy of life.
I stand there another day just to say goodbye.

This is a poem about high tide. We had finished reading a poem about low tide and now we are doing a high tide one.  Hope you enjoyed reading my poem.

Charday-Poem 2013

My Poems!
Brother from another mother!

Whether black, white or brown,
Or he ditched home town,
He hung around found,
He isn't my friend,
He’s my brother to the very last end.

Best Friend!!

Best Friends means different things to different people. Some insist that you can have only one best friend. Others assert that they have best friends for different aspects of their personalities. Whatever the precise definition, your best friend is the person who gets you. They understand who you are and what you are saying. The greatest distance cannot separate best friends. You will always feel a kinship with them, and be able to instantly continue the friendship even after not talking for many years.

Today at class we get to make our own poem about anything we want it to be. This is my poem about brothers and Best friend. Hope you enjoyed my poem.

My Perspective On Denis Glover's Poem "Drift"

For reading we had to reflect over a poem called drift. I came to a realisation just like my friend that it was probably more than about just drifting in water.

Drift by Denis Glover -

What are some features we can see in the poem? Use words and quotes from the poem to support your answer...
It rhymes e.g A.A.B.B and Beach, Reach.
What is the author’s purpose of the poem?
Is to raise awareness that driftwoods are pieces of old log that travel around numerous places though they do not choose the path they are on because it is chosen for them by which why the wind is pointing or where the storm is headed. Sometimes you need to choose your own path instead of people directing and choosing for you where you go. It not about how you do it, it’s about where you’re going.

What are the key ideas in the poem?
Is to follow your own path way and don’t let other people push you back to the start. Make sure they don’t direct you to the wrong pathway.

Why do you think these are the key ideas?
“May drift to indifferent shores” meaning go wherever your path takes you even if you have to ride rough ways.
How does the poem make you feel?
It makes me feel I can go anywhere I want and either be happy or disappointed of my  destination. I like being able to make my own decisions and seeing where it takes me.

Why does it make you feel this way?
I love freedom and with the poem being about driftwood and how it moves around you discover new things and new doors to different lives.

How does the image in the poem support the way the poem makes your feel?
The driftwood drifting in the water and water can lead to different places even to your dreams and hopes coming true and then achieving your aspiration. It’s drifting free.

Ancestors Poem, 2013

       How my ancestors created me

I am a proud daughter of my many Maori ancestors.
Their wisdom protects me from illness and helps to keep me strong.
Unconditional love and support of family ties us all together.
Even when, without thinking I do something that is wrong.

For me they struggled and strived in a stormy salty sea.
To sail to an unknown land in their magnificent wooden waka.
While listening to howling winds or a soft summer breeze.
Paddling bravely with hardened leathery hands to reach Aotearoa.

The taste of salt upon dried and cracking lips.
The familiar smell of the waka’s wood was joined by that of land.
The last of their water they drank in sips.
As they saw the green hills and headed towards the sand.

In the future I will be a famous Silver Fern.
Taking strength from all my ancestors as I play each game.
They will be proud of me for carrying my head up high.
Showing my love of them by honoring my Maori name.

Persuasive Writing 2013

Dear Customer,

I think you should read my favourite book called Creepella Von Cacklefur, Ghost Pirate Treasure!

Why SHOULD YOU read my book?
I recommend this book because it is an excellent  mystery book that is very interesting and exciting.  When you read this book it takes you to imaginary places.  While you are reading it, you begin to feel as if you are actually one of the characters in the book.

The main character in this book is named Creepella Von Cacklefur, who is a mouse that  loves to help her friends solve mysteries .  She loves to travel to many places.  Also she is a bat mouse who can fly like a bat and can turn into a bat.  She also has a pet bat who is coloured purple.  She absolutely loves purple and wears a beautiful long purple  dress that touches the ground.  She has long black hair and wears a gold necklace around her neck.

If you read this book you will become a better writer because it contains lots of powerful words that you can use yourself.  It also contains great words that hook the reader in.

Even though I am too old for this book, I still love to  read it because it is a really entertaining book that is fun to read.  It is also a great book for little children to get them hooked on reading. Even the cover of the book is awesome because you are attracted by the bright colours and clever  drawings.

Now you know about my favourite book, it’s time to read it for yourself.

Charday And Chasity Persuasive Writing about Rubbish at our School

We are Responsible for the rubbish at our School

Dear : Principal of Tamaki Primary.

This needs to be dealt with. We think that WE ARE responsible for the rubbish we’ve produced.

Firstly, the rubbish at our School  attraction to rats and mice which means diseases  will spread around our  school. This also won’t just affect us but also the community around our school , which will also mean parents won’t get to work to make money to support their families and people will end up staying home sick.

Secondly if the wind blows the rubbish into the drains. This will mean the drains will get blocked and we will have to get our school to pay a huge amount of money to try and unblock them. Do you want this to happen?

Our main reason is that our beloved caretaker Koro has to stay at school to try and pick up rubbish that we have left behind and that will mean he won’t be able to go home and spend time with his family. These are our reasons for why we think we should get rid of our rubbish.

Thursday 6 May 2013, was well... the best day of our life!!! I’m not being dramatic or anything but a group of students got the chance to see that Mr.William James Adams, otherwise known as Will.I.Am . He has donated $100,000 to the Manaiakalani Education Trust. We were told at first that it was an anonymous donater but when we arrived we got the news that it was Will.I.Am himself who had donated the money. It was something worth experiencing.

When the cheque was presented we were thankful and honored for his helpful donation towards the Manaiakalani Education Trust. His inspirational words motivated us all as students to keep moving forward in life.

The words that he preached today was "My mission is to help transform disadvantaged youths, and I hope my donation to the Manaiakalani Trust will help these young people gain the skills they need for tomorrow's job market."

We acknowledged that fact the he shared a small portion of his life with us about growing up with  only his mum to raise him and about the fact that music and arts literally saved his life. He told us that his dream was to look after his mother and siblings.

When he told us what his dream was we felt like we could do something with our life. Meeting or hearing him wasn’t just hearing or seeing him as a celebrity but we got to hear and see him as a person who motivated himself to succeed in life.

We came back to school feeling glad we got to be part of something worth remembering, we got to be part of something we could tell our friends with pride and experience.

My Weekly Poem

WALT read a poem and analyse the language features of a poem. This will help us think poetically so that we can write a similar poem to share with others.

Around the corner, down the street

When I’m feeling down, with no one around
I know I can look to you.
When I need a hug, or need a friend
I don’t have to worry.
For when we met and became friends, I knew I wouldn't be sorry.

1.Summarise the poem you have read in your own words.
  • The poem I read this week is about a friend expressing her feelings about her friend.

2.Identify at least 2 different language features in the poem and give examples. You can identify more than 2 language features.

  • One of the language features in this poem is a  assonance Here is an example of this language feature the, there.
  • Another language feature in this poem is rhyme .Here is an example of this language feature sorry, worry.

3. Evaluate (which means reflect and give your opinion) the author’s purpose for writing this poem - in your answers include the words: inform, entertain, persuade.

  • By analysing the poem I have read this week I think the author wrote this poem because the author wants us to have best friends so when we feel down our friend make us stand back up.
  • The author was informing the audience about her feeling when they became best friend with someone.
  • The author was entertaining the audience by expressing her feeling about her best friend.
  • The author is trying to persuade the audience to think about your friends when you leave.
